How temperature changes a pink

Warm pinks contain a stronger red, orange or peach impression. Coral pink, salmon pink and peach pink all move in this direction. Cool pinks pull toward blue, violet or magenta, which is why rose pink, fuchsia and lavender pink feel visually different even when their lightness is similar. Temperature becomes especially useful when a pink must sit beside an existing neutral, blue, green or metallic colour.

How intensity changes the result

Intensity describes how strong or restrained the colour feels. Vibrant pinks use high saturation and attract attention quickly. Muted pinks lower the chroma and may introduce a grey, brown or mauve impression. Soft pastel pinks combine low to moderate saturation with high lightness, so they can cover larger areas without creating the same visual weight as hot pink or deep pink.

Why lightness matters separately from saturation

A colour can be highly saturated and still relatively light, or muted and relatively dark. Treating lightness as a separate choice helps distinguish pale candy pinks from mid-tone dusty roses and dark berry pinks. This also matters for interface design because perceived lightness influences hierarchy, but accessible text contrast still needs an actual contrast calculation.
